Particle size analyzer by laser diffraction

The 6NAPSE Group performs particle size analysis. We bring our expertise for the acquisition of data within dry samples (powders, flours, sands…) or liquid samples (syrups, emulsions, suspensions…).

Particle size analysis by laser diffraction

Our laboratories carry out powder analysis and  particle size analysis.

Knowledge of the morphology and sizing of parts, surface layers, paints, granules, etc. is essential for mastering an industrial process. It is therefore important to know or control these different parameters in order to validate the methods and processes.

Laser Diffraction Granulometry uses the principle of diffraction and scattering of a laser beam striking a particle in the liquid or dry process.

Each particle diffracts light at an angle that depends on its size. The diffracted light is collected by a multi-element detector. The result is illustrated in the form of a semi-logarithmic curve (according to the criteria of the ISO 13320 standard).

The values that can be obtained are:

  • D90, D50, etc.
  • Particle size by volume
  • Mass particle size

Technical characteristics

  • Measurement: dry and liquid routes; possibility of measurements in different liquid dispersants (water, ethanol, isopropanol, etc.)
  • Use: powders and particles in suspension
  • Measurement range:
    • 20nm – 3.5mm (liquid)
    • 200nm – 3.5mm (dry)

This standardized method has the limitation of the spherical shape assumption. The 6NAPSE Group has a morphological analyzer to complete the approach of particles in powder or in a liquid.
