CFD simulation – computational fluid dynamics

simulation calcul CFD mécanique des fluides

The 6NAPSE Group performs CFD simulation (also called “computational fluid dynamics”) and simulates the principle of fluid mechanics.

What is CFD ?

CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) is the study of fluid flows using numerical methods. The resolution is generally carried out by discretizing a volume of calculation into a mesh of a multitude of small elements (several million in certain cases).

Uses of CFD in different industries:

  • Aerospace and defense: subsonic and supersonic flow, vehicle aerodynamics, conjugate heat exchange
  • Automotive: cabin air conditioning, aero-acoustic noise, fluid sloshing, exhaust, aerodynamics, engine cooling, defrost, transmission
  • Consumer Goods: Acoustics, Passive/Active Cooling, Bike Helmets
  • Electronics: spare parts, PCB thermal analysis, cooling, LED part analysis
  • Shipbuilding: acoustics, propeller design, cavitation studies
  • Machinery: large fans, gas turbines, wind turbines, steam turbines, pumps, washing machines, turbochargers

CFD simulation is used to model the behavior of fluids.

CFD simulation / Fluid Mechanics

The 6NAPSE Group performs computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

It is about simulation of dynamics with taking into account of fluidic flow. Indeed, our simulation engineers study the air flow or the airflow on a system.

These studies make it possible to characterize the fluid and thermal phenomena which directly influence the performance of the product. Thus, they accurately calculate air velocity, temperature, and gas concentrations for every point in space.

  • Calculation of fluid/structure interactions
  • Pressure drop calculation
  • Two-phase flow calculation
  • Turbulence modeling

Applications

  • Aerodynamic calculation on a vehicle
  • Calculation of fluid flow in a pump
  • Optimization of air flow in ventilation ducts
  • Calculation of thermal field on electrical box
  • Aerodynamic noise analysis
  • Study of the impact of a mechanical part in a flowing fluid
  • Calculation of pressure drop in a ventilation duct
