Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)

ATG, Analyse thermogravimétrique

The 6NAPSE Group performs thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The laboratory measures the variation in mass of a sample as a function of temperature and time, under a controlled atmosphere.

Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in laboratory

The 6NAPSE Group supports industry in the testing of materials subjected to different temperatures using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). TGA provides valuable information on the thermal properties and composition of materials.

The laboratory monitors the mass variation of a sample as a function of temperature in a controlled atmosphere. It understands and quantifies the mass loss or gain phenomena occurring within a material when subjected to a temperature program.

  • Material quality control: verification of raw material compliance, identification of defects, aging studies, etc.
  • Polymer characterization: determination of thermal phenomena, decomposition temperature, filler content, etc.
  • Pharmaceutical product analysis: study of the thermal stability of drugs, etc.
  • Environmental analysis: study of waste decomposition, analysis of polluted soils, etc.
  • Study of the oxidation of metallic materials
  • Humidity level

We provide simultaneous measurements of mass loss/gain and heat flow of a sample.

Applications

  • Analysis of mineral and organic substances
  • Quantitative determination of mineral filler, polymer, and additive content
  • Determination of a material’s decomposition temperature
  • Oxidation study and stability
  • Evaporation of volatiles
  • Analysis of thermal phenomena (melting, crystallization, etc.)

What is thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)?

Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is a thermal analysis technique that involves measuring the change in mass of a sample as a function of temperature and time, under a controlled atmosphere.

Our equipment also allows us to measure the heat flow of a sample to observe thermal phenomena (melting, crystallization, etc.).

Technical characteristics

  • Temperature range: 25°C to 1600°C
  • Measurement accuracy: +/- 0.5K
  • Weighing accuracy: 0.005%
  • Resolution: 0.1µg (up to 5g)
  • Crucible types: Platinum, alumina, PCA/sapphire, and aluminum
  • Crucible volume: Minimum: 30µL (alumina and PCA/sapphire); 70µL (platinum); 40µL (aluminum)
  • Maximum: 900µL (alumina); 70µL (platinum); 100µL (aluminum)
  • Gas: N2 and air
