Dielectric withstand test and measurement

Essais diélectriques par diélectrimètre, permittivité relative, constante diélectrique, mesure d'isolation électrique

The 6NAPSE Group carries out dielectric withstand tests and measurements to characterize the electrical properties of a material.

What is a dielectric test?

Dielectric tests ensure that the insulation of an electrical device meets its specifications. An excessive electric field can cause breakdown and potentially alter the device’s properties.

Dielectric tests and measurements

Our design office uses a dielectric meter to determine the dielectric properties of a material. These properties, which describe how a material interacts with an electric field, provide valuable information on:

  • Their ability to store energy (relative permittivity or dielectric constant)
  • Their behavior in the presence of electric fields
  • Their energy losses (generally dissipated as heat)

Our dielectric tests consist of applying a voltage across a dipole (input and output). We verify that the insulation is adequate by applying a test voltage appropriate for the desired type of insulation. Our design office thus guarantees the performance of the insulation and therefore the electrical safety of the device.

  • Insulation resistance tests up to 1000V depending on the product type.
  • Voltage withstand tests (included in dielectric tests) up to 3000V.
  • Dielectric strength tests

Manufacturers rely on our laboratory for dielectric measurements when they need precise and reliable information on the electrical properties of their materials.

In addition, our design office also offers electrical insulation measurements.

Applications

  • Characterization and identification of a material’s electrical properties (insulation, energy storage, etc.).
  • Comparative studies between two materials
  • Quality control and monitoring of industrial processes
  • Detection of anomalies in dielectric properties
  • Homogeneity assessment: verification that dielectric properties are uniform throughout the volume of a material or component.
  • Conformity control: compliance with required electrical specifications
    • Example: tests for light fixtures according to standard IEC 600598-1
