Rubber analysis and expertise of elastomers

analyse caoutchouc élastomères

The 6NAPSE Group carries out the analysis and characterization of elastomers and rubber. Our laboratory also offers a wide range of tests to check the conformity of elastomers.

Characteristics of elastomers and rubber

Elastomers are polymers with rubbery elasticity. Rubber is part of the elastomer family. It is an essential material in everyday life. Its exceptional mechanical properties (shock-absorbing, extensible, incompressible, rigid, adherent, etc.) make it a versatile material.

Elastomers are special polymers due to their capacity for elastic collisions, i.e. they return to their initial shapes after the stress stops. This advantage allows them to take different forms, particularly in the automotive industry. Its qualities are more exploited in tires, this sector consumes more than half of the production of elastomers, and the automotive industry: tires, seals, tubes, industrial supports, elastic connections, anti-vibration devices, etc.

This polymer is used in many other sectors such as the mechanical, aeronautical, electrical, transport, building, medicine and pharmacy industries, and even in the nuclear industry.

Elastomer and rubber analysis laboratory

The 6NAPSE Group supports you in the analysis and characterization of elastomer or rubber-based products. We offer a wide range of analyses, tests and expertise in order to validate compliance, test resistance, observe a defect, identify the cause and mode of failure and propose solutions.

Elastomers expertise and testing

Applications

  • Determination of the nature of the elastomeric material by infrared (characterization of EPDM, NBR, etc.)
  • Susceptibility test on elastomers for aeronautics (DO-160G) and automotive (ISO 16750-5): tests on elastomer seals (phenomenon of swelling, degradation), on sheaths (resistance of the sheath and its marking)
  • Characterization of TPU tube aging: scanning electron microscopy + EDX (evolution of surface morphology, surface oxidation), IRTF spectroscopy (additive migration, structure rearrangement, etc.)
  • Characterization of elastomeric seal hardness
  • Aging test and TABER abrasion test on bladder materials
  • Membrane characterization in the field of health/medical device (optical microcopy and SEM-EDX).
  • Cap characterization, foreign bodies in the pharmaceutical field: characterization of NBR…
  • Determination of characteristic temperatures by DSC, ATG (glass transition)
