Analysis by GC-MS and GC-FID
The 6NAPSE Group carries out analysis by GC-MS and GC-FID (gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry or flame ionization) in the laboratory.
What is a GC-MS or GC-FID analysis ?
The objective of chemical analysis by GC-MS (and/or GC-FID) is to precisely identify or quantify numerous substances present in small quantities or even in traces. Thus, the technique makes it possible to separate different volatile and semi-volatile compounds from a mixture and analyze them qualitatively, semi-quantitatively and quantitatively.
GC-MS / GC-FID analysis laboratory
The 6NAPSE Group supports the industry in the issues of organic materials (deformulation of polymers, determination of a composition, etc.).
Our laboratory uses GC-MS for this: gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer. In addition, we also use the GC-FID technique: gas chromatography coupled with flame ionization.
- Gas chromatography (GC) allows the separation of compounds in a sample based on their molecular weight.
- Mass spectrometry (MS), for its part, is used for the detection and identification of compounds based on their mass to charge ratio.
- The Flame Ionization Detector (FID) can detect separated components by providing guidance on the detection of carbon compounds.
GC-MS analyzes can be performed on liquids, gases or solids. Samples analyzed by GC-MS are separated in the gas state based on various physical and chemical properties to perform quantitative analysis. The equipment also allows the identification of unknown components.
