Laboratory for the analysis of species concentration

analyse de la concentration d'une espèce chimique par dosage par titrage

Group 6NAPSE performs elemental titration to determine the concentration and mass percentage of a species in solution.

Manufacturers often have a chemical product or a solution whose concentration they wish to know or verify (whether it is the concentration of a species in a solution or the concentration of the solution). All types of industries are concerned as long as they use a liquid product or are linked to chemistry.

Analysis of the concentration of a chemical species in solution

The 6NAPSE Group carries out titration dosing and analysis of the concentration of a chemical species (molecule or ion) in solution.

  • Determination of concentration (e.g.: 2gr/l)
  • Identification of the mass percentage of the species in the solution (ex: 38%)

A titration determines the concentration or amount of material of a substance in a solution, by the controlled addition of a reagent of known concentration based on a complete chemical reaction between the substance and the reagent.

To do this, the chemical analysis laboratory uses a graduated burette containing the titrating solution (the concentration of which is known) and an Erlenmeyer flask containing the solution to be titrated (the concentration of which must be determined). The dosage by titration then provides information allowing the calculation of the concentration (for a species in solution) and thus being able to go back to the mass percentage.

Depending on the reaction, our teams use different types of titrations:

    • Colorimetric titration (with colorimetric indicator)
    • pH-metric titration (for acid-base reactions for pH with probe and pH meter)
    • Conductometric titration (for ion reaction with conductometry probe)

A density analysis with a pycnometer can complement the concentration analysis if the safety data sheet (MSDS) is not provided or wishes to be verified.

This analysis can be supplemented by ICP, or we can quantify the impurities present in the solution, and confirm the composition of the solution.

    Application cases

    • Checking the SDS of a solution (e.g. 30% soda)
    • Dosage of a chloridric acid and verification of the dilution of its solution to the desired concentration (eg: from 60% to 30%)
    • Determination of the concentration of a species in a solution (e.g.: NaCl in distilled water)
    • Determination of the mass percentage of a solution (e.g.: 30% soda or 30% NaOH)

Short standard deadlines and possibilities of emergencies.
