Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES)

The 6NAPSE Group performs elemental quantitative analysis on metallic materials, with an Optical Emission Spectroscopy (SEO).

Analysis by Optical Emission Spectroscopy (SEO)

We carry out the identification and analysis of the chemical composition of the elements of metallic materials. Our laboratory is indeed equipped for this purpose with an Arc and Spark Optical Emission Spectrometer (SEO). This equipment makes it possible to analyze the control of the material and the study of the shade of metals.

  • Iron base
    • Unalloyed and low alloy steels (type C20, 42CrMo4, XC75, 100Cr6, etc.)
    • Stainless steels (type 301, 316, 17-4pH, X30Cr13…)
  • Copper base (brass, bronze, cupronickel…)
  • Nickel base (inconel, monel,…)
  • Aluminum base (2014, 7075, ….)
  • Titanium base (TA6V,…)
  • Zinc base (ZAMAK type…)

This device makes it possible to analyze the chemical elements present in the material and to quantify their mass concentration.

Technical characteristics

  • Apparatus: 4 TASMAN (BRUCKER)
  • Types of samples: Metallic materials (dosage of chemical elements emitting in wavelengths between 130 and 620nm)
  • Surface of the samples: 10x10mm (or Ø10mm) minimum*
    * For a smaller dimension, contact us

Applications

  • Verification of metallic material
  • Control at the end of production of the constitution of a metal, check if it is correct in relation to a specification
  • In the event of a failure, verification of the conformity of the metal with respect to the material sheet

Machine principle

A small area of the sample to be analyzed is vaporized by the formation of a spark. The material thus fused is vaporized, atomized, ionized and excited in an argon plasma. The atoms will stabilize, at the same time generating light energy (photons). This polychromatic light is separated into its monochromatic components. Finally, the detectors transform these monochromatic components into a quantifiable signal allowing the determination of the elements.

The laboratory’s experience and databases allow us to decide on the precise composition or shade present, to check the values against specifications or to provide an analysis report.
