Heat Treatment: a crucial process for Industry

The heat treatment process consists in imposing an appropriate thermal cycle, in order to modify the mechanical, physico-chemical properties or the microstructure of a metallic material. These treatments are essential parameters for industrial applications: automotive, transport, rail, agriculture, sport and leisure, public works, etc.

Indeed, the control and characterization of these heat treatments require special processes, monitoring key parameters: temperature, atmosphere and cooling. The objective is to qualify and verify whether the treatment applied complies with the specifications.

In order to verify the quality of a heat treatment, the conformity of the process and to assess the behavior of the material with respect to key parameters, the 6NAPSE Group supports manufacturers in their process of control and characterization of heat treatments according to numerous criteria.

  • Metallurgical structural analysis: a measurement of roughness by profilometer which allows the control of the surface state of a material, it can be supplemented by an observation of the surface with a scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDX) which can highlight defects of structure.
  • Identification of metallurgical condition: the identification and analysis of the characteristics of metallic parts in order to determine their level of safety, reliability and integrity.
  • Hardness check: Buchholz indentation test, Persoz-König hardness, Vickers, Shore A and D, a check that allows to evaluate the properties of a material by durometer (ductility, resistance to key parameters, etc.)
  • Mechanical control: by carrying out non-destructive metallurgical testing of the material which has undergone treatment, in order to study its resistance and its behavior, its qualification and mechanical reliability.
  • Differential thermal analysis: this technique consists in determining the variation of thermal flow emitted or received by a sample when it is subjected to a temperature programming, under controlled atmosphere, this measurement is carried out by DSC (differential scanning calorimetry).
