Laboratory for the analysis of brass and other copper alloys
The 6NAPSE Group performs the analysis of brass, the most widely used of copper alloys. The laboratory also conducts metallurgical expertise and material failure studies.
Characteristics of Brass in Industry
Brass is a yellow alloy, very ductile and malleable, composed mainly of copper and zinc. Depending on the composition, brasses therefore have a range of malleability, ductility, resistance to corrosion, color and adhesion of patinas, varnishes, metallic coatings and/or adaptation to surface treatments. It is a less oxidizable alloy than pure copper.
Very easy to machine, hot or cold, it is one of the main alloys used in the manufacture of small turned parts in very large series (CuZn39Pb2 or Pb3).
Brasses are commonly used in jewelry, watchmaking, decoration, plumbing, locksmithing and ironwork, in the manufacture of measuring and musical instruments, as well as in the field of art.
Due to the majority presence of copper, brass is sensitive to atmospheric corrosion and a layer called verdigris can quickly appear on the surface.
Brass analysis and expertise
The 6NAPSE Group carries out metallurgical analyzes and expertise on metal parts to ensure the quality and durability of your parts.
- Physico-chemical characterization of brass and copper alloys
- Chemical composition analysis and grade checks of copper alloys (bronze, brass)
- Elemental analysis and determination of the elements constituting brass
- Analysis and characterization of surfaces (roughness, defects, …) on brass materials
- Surface treatment analysis
- Heat treatment analysis
- Surface characterization and fracture facies study
- Material control and product conformity
Validation and corrosion testing
In our test centers, we also carry out premature aging tests on materials in order to analyze their change of state, their durability or their conformity. Also, we conduct environmental and mechanical validation tests:
- Environmental tests (temperature, susceptibility to fluids, light, etc.)
- Mechanical tests (fatigue, endurance, maneuver)
- Vibration tests (shock resistance in an assembly)
We are also able to carry out the expertise of a failure (breakage, rupture, appearance defect) as well as the identification of the origin of corrosion (rust) and corrosion resistance tests in condition salt fog.
