Steel analysis laboratory

The 6NAPSE Group performs steel analysis. The laboratory also conducts tests and validation studies (including corrosion) to guarantee the durability and validation of steel parts according to the specifications and standards in force.

Characteristics of Steel in Industry

Steel is a metallic alloy made mainly of iron and a small amount of carbon. The higher the percentage of carbon present in the steel, the greater the hardness of the metal. Steel sometimes includes certain additional elements, such as copper or chromium, which give it particular characteristics of use (flexibility, resistance to temperature changes, etc.). There are different grades of steel alloys such as stainless steel.

There are several categories of steel. According to the European designation (standards EN 10027-1 and -2), four are distinguished:

Non-alloy steels for general use (Iron and Carbon)
Special unalloyed steels for heat treatment, malleable, weldable, forgeable
Low alloy steels (Iron and Carbon and up to 5% alloys such as Si, Cr, Mn, Ni, Mo, etc.) for quenching and tempering
High alloy steels (Iron and Carbon + a higher percentage of key elements with varying concentrations Si, Cr, Mn, Ni, Mo, etc.): stainless steels and high-speed steels

Steels are present in many industrial sectors: building and construction, machining, industrial production, aeronautics, food packaging, etc.

Validation and corrosion testing

In our test centers, we also carry out premature aging tests on materials in order to analyze their change of state, their durability or their conformity. Also, we conduct environmental and mechanical validation tests:

Environmental tests (temperature, susceptibility to fluids, light, etc.)
Mechanical tests (fatigue, endurance, maneuver)
Vibration tests (shock resistance in an assembly)

We are also able to carry out the expertise of a failure (breakage, rupture, appearance defect) as well as the identification of the origin of corrosion (rust) and corrosion resistance tests in condition salt fog.
